T-Mobile G1 with Google (the Android) phone?

As the name implies there is a new phone technology being introduced. Yet, there is no “Android” in the new phone and it supposedly takes the ever evolving technology of communications one step future. The official model name for the device is the “T-Mobile G1 with Google”, the “Android” is the platform developed by HTC (a produce development company), and it’s the first phone by Google (yes the search engine leviathan).

If this new “android” phone is anything like it’s hype then you’ll want to view the press release and run out to purchase one, but they are already sold out thanks to the pre-order process.

The Official Press release on Sept 23 at 10 AM wasn’t very amusing. It lacked the flash and enthusiasm needed to launch a product hyped like the T-Mobile G1. At one point, one of the presenters noted how much fun it would be to use the phone for a “30 minute Pac-Man session” and according to my book 30 minutes on any classic arcade game is just a warm up. Also being a new platform most of the applications introduced were by Google and not focused on third party open community software developers that supposedly set the T-Mobile G1 apart from iPhone in terms of application possibilities. The suits involved in the presentation demonstrated an uncertainity about the product as it remains to be seen what open community software developers will bring to fruition in the future.

As for now the T-Mobile G1 is the hottest phone (sorry Steve) and can very well inspire other companies to push the envelope once again. The interface looks spacious with plenty of graphic space, while the center core of the device, the Google search engine, is the main attraction. The keyboard looked like many others. The flip-mode screen seems to hesitated to flip (rotate) before typing begins.

I really want to see a T-Mobile G1 phone soon in order to make a new phone choice. And being that Verizon just dropped 1 and 2 year service agreements in favor of free agency, this may be a harder decision to make than just selecting a new phone device.

By the way, this is a phone right? I don’t recall mentioned anywhere in the presentation a rotary dial option to make calls.
