When it comes to lighting design few companies come close to quality and design like Luceplan. And recently I noticed a few new fixtures that caught my eye, mainly the Titania fixture stands out as an example of modern times and manufacturing.

“The aluminium lamellar shell is made up of an ordered sequence of aluminium ribs, which reflect and dematerialise the source of light. The lamp assumes different shapes depending on its angle: transparent seen head on, solid seen from the side. The use of a pair of filters to the sides of the source of light allows the body of the lamp to change colour without interfering with the emission of white light.”

Waldilla Wood Floors

I recently found Waldilla, by a wood flooring manufacturer from Germany that can produce a floor consisting of curved wood planks, custom made to fit your room. It’s obvious why wood boards are always straight due to the milling process, but it never occurred to me that curved can also be achieved. We have the computer gods to thank for this product and the installers looking at the shop drawings.

Zeta fireplace

Zeta is a new fireplace designed by australian architect John Dimopoulos for EcoSmart Fire. It’s rather amazing and portable. Yes, that’s right this fireplace requires no flue or gas connection.

“Like other models in the Designer Range, the Zeta is fuelled by denatured ethanol, an environmentally friendly, renewable energy. ”

The construction of the fireplace is made from plywood and wrapped in aluminum and leather, with glass on the sides. This is a real unique piece of elegant modern design that I would like to incorporate into any project.

Milk Paint a safe organic solution

Everyone with an old home is subject to a paint project every few years and the likelihood of using an organic paint is seldom considered. Before modern paints containing chemicals were invented, craftsman used organic pigments to add tone to furniture and walls.

The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Companyfrom Groton, Massachusetts has been making organic milk paint since 1974. They started out as a vintage furniture reproduction business and demand for their special formula of milk paint used on the furniture soon became popular. The Milk Paint Company now offers many colors and paints for different applications including walls (SafePaint). Next time it’s time to paint, consider using an organic or low/zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paint that will not harm the environment by releasing harmful fumes into the atmosphere.
